JungBon GIL,
Our beautiful mother-of-pearl craft as a world-class culture and art
JungBon GIL
Gil Jeong-bon is an artist who has elevated Korea's long-standing tradition of mother-of-pearl lacquerware through diverse themes, breaking away from classical frameworks to harmoniously blend Eastern delicacy with Western splendor. In Korea, he has received numerous cultural and artistic awards, including the "Proud Korean Award." Notably, starting with an invitational exhibition at the Nara Silk Road Expo in Japan, he has held dozens of exhibitions representing Korea in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kyoto, Sapporo, Sendai, and Kumamoto—including the FIFA World Cup Commemorative Exhibition and the Nikko Toshogu Shrine (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) Invitational Exhibition—with the support of government agencies and the media to promote cultural exchange between Korea and Japan. Due to this renown, his work was admitted to the Japanese Imperial Palace, and he is the only foreigner to have received the Minister of Cultural Affairs Award.
